R.Silcocks Mountain Guiding

A Qualified Mountain Leader providing fun and informative hiking trips in the Lake District National Park.
Hikes are open to anyone 18+ with a good pair of hiking boots!

About me

Hi, I'm Rhodri!
I grew up in and around the Lake District, conquering my first mountain age only three and half and climbing Scafell Pike for the first time at just six.
Since then my love of the mountains has only grown so I trained as a mountain leader to share that love with fellow adventurers. Whether you are new to hiking and looking for a helping hand to get started, or a seasoned explorer who wants to learn more about the environment and heritage of the Lake District; my hikes aim to prove enjoyable to all!
My favourite part of the Lake District is definitely Coniston, I've always had a fascination with the ruins left on the Old Man by centuries of mining- you can practically feel the history seeping out of every stone! I also feel a special connection to this area as it is where my grandmother was born and my great-grandfather was involved in the construction of many dry stone walls around the village.I am fully trained as a Mountain Leader through the Mountain Training Association (member number 490778) and have an active membership with the British Mountaineering Council (M811186), as well as a fully up to date qualification in wilderness first aid.

Bookings

Please view my events on the calendar below and email me at [email protected] to register interest and receive my payment details.
All single-day hikes are £30 per person, and wild camping experiences £100 per person.

For all of my hikes I would advise wearing walking boots and not shoes as the additional ankle support is beneficial on uneven ground.
The weather forecast is never 100% accurate, so for all activities in the mountains it is best to be prepared for inclement weather even when the forecast says it will be a sunny day. It can often be much colder at the summit than in a valley so appropriate clothing is essential.
At a minimum I would recommend the following kit for all hikes:

  • Waterproof coat and trousers

  • Warm clothing (jumper, hat and gloves)

  • At least 1L of water, 2L or more on hotter days

  • Food for lunch and snacks

  • Suncream and sunglasses

  • A rucksack with enough space for everything (I would recomend a rucksack with waist strap as this will distribute the weight more evenly over your back)

  • Personal first aid kit for minor scratches/blisters or personal medication (I will also carry a more substantial first aid kit for the whole group)

For overnight trips your own tent is required. If you have a camping stove + fuel, I would also recomend bringing this, however I can share mine if required.A fuller kit list for both single day and overnight hikes will be provided upon placing a booking.Disclaimer:
All clients must be willing to have their kit checked before beginning the hike and will be turned away if I deem you inadequately prepared as this poses a risk to your own safety. Please ensure you have read any kit requirements sent to you at the time of booking.
